Pain Is Temporary
My favorite motivational speaker is the one and only Dr. Eric Thomas. Throughout the world, he is best known as E.T the Hip Hop Preacher. When I was in the midst of individual training, team practice, and weight room sessions, I took mental and physical beatings daily. I can vividly remember calling on the name of Jesus during a weight training session that caused me to collapse with muscle spasms on the floor.
It was listening to E.T’s high energy messages that pushed me to return each day for another beating. Keep in mind that I am 6’2, and I was the fourth shortest player on the team. Crazy right? One of his most known videos is titled, “The Guru”. In this video, he talks about pain being “temporary”. He went on to say. “It may last a minute, an hour, and even a day, but eventually it will subside, and something else will take its place.”
I reflected on these words when I nearly tore my achilles, and groin in the same month. I reflected on the hope of healing every morning at 6am when I had to get therapy. I also reflected on those words when we had to sit for twelve minutes in fifty-five degree water to heal. (That’s freezing fyi).
But it was worth it.
I did not quit and I am among a select few people that can claim the right to be a Bulldog basketball player. I joined that club with my uncle (Greg Carter), and his son (Tyson Carter) as a proud graduate. The pain our world is facing now is temporary. God has already promised that “He shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”(Rev. 21:4) I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait until that time comes. I’m certain it will be the most beautiful experience. Hang on and endure!
“Always remember your purpose and your worth net. Never a day are you worth-less, because you’re worth it…And so much more!”
